Perched on the corner of a traditional, slightly ornate roof, it would be nice to think that this cat was sat practicing its gargoyle mimicry routine. Much more likely, however, is that it was merely the best spot to keep tabs on the furtively approaching, and far more gargoyle-like, foreigner.

Nicely framed! He’s really watching you! 🙂
Lee says
Thanks. I really like the traditional Japanese roofs, so I couldn’t resist the shot. And yes it was — very intently!
Martin says
It is a good photo. That pretty girl (calicos are all female) is giving you the look.
Lee says
Cheers!
Ah, I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info.
Willy says
Got the gargoyle stare for sure…
Lee says
Yeah, a real wide-eyed stare for sure. That seems to be their standard reaction towards me!
Willy says
Oh I remember that reaction well in Japan.. but eventually it faded away into a routine in the local community… turned into one of welcoming. Like all peoples (and animals) everywhere, we habituate, and thus rescind our fears.
Lee says
Yes, that’s very true. Surprising how quick those reactions can change too.
Lizzy says
It always amazes me the places cats get to. We had one who would sit on top of the doors if they were left open.
Lee says
That’s funny. It does seem like they sit in/on some places simply because they can. And if you can, then why not I guess.

ãŠãŠã„ï¼ã“ã®å¯ºã¯ç§ã®ã‚‚ã®ã ï¼You seem to have a penchant for going to places owned by cats. Wait, what am I saying, cats own everything…
Lee says
Haha, she was very protective of her spot that’s for sure!
They do. Surprising just how many cats there are in Tokyo, particularly so in the older neighbourhoods.
Rurousha says
Love roofs and love cats, ergo … love this photo.
Lee says
Thanks. To be honest, I’m not a fan of cats, but I do like this photo!
winnie says

My friends told me that if we see this tri-coloured cat, we willl be very Lucky!! 🙂
Lee says
Let’s hope they are right!
