A lot of Tokyo’s little urban parks have concrete playthings and structures. Animals for the most part, but occasionally bigger, more colourful additions such as this previously photographed gazebo of sorts. What aren’t so common, on the other hand, are large, retro-looking robots that double up as slides.
Rumour has it that this particular creation also wanders about when everyone is sleeping. A nice little story that sounds like it’s straight out of a kids’ book, although the fella in the corner of the next to last photo is possibly suggestive of something altogether more sinister.

How cool is that?!? Looks like that robot has been there a few years. Thanks!
Lee says
I know eh? It was a very nice surprise and then some. And yeah, a good few decades would be my guess.

First time to ever see something like this. I am accustomed to sad looking little concrete creatures, but nothing like this. I am sure many little children have enjoyed this robot more than the animals:)
Lee says
Yeah, likewise. Definitely nothing like this. And I totally agree — those animals are just awful!
Morgan says
This is so perfect with its retro look and the chipped paint showing previous colors. I wish there had been something like this for me to play on as a child.
Lee says
Same. Don’t remember anything like this. Yeah, I like the glimpses of older colour schemes, and that retro design is wonderful.
Steve says
If it can be made with concrete, it will be made with concrete.
Lee says
Haha, that’s so very true.

What a cool retro robot. I wonder whether the kids can recognize it for what it is! 😀
Lee says
That’s a good point. Probably not eh? Likely just a fun slide, although I’m sure the parents enjoy it for very different reasons!

What a wonderful find. I think I’ve got enough angles from your photographs to model one and print it out for a desk ornament 🙂
I can imagine it left quite an imprint on the children who played on and around it regularly. Possibly like the guy on the left who really can’t get it out of his head 🙂
Lee says
It was a real treat that’s for sure. Definitely made my day. And that’s a great idea if you can do it. Plenty more photos online as well.
Yeah, presumably quite a few generations of kids as well. No doubt lots of fond memories attached to it, and possibly one bad one!
