Yokohama, just south of Tokyo, is a popular destination for many, but personally I’ve always struggled to like it. Quite why is hard to pinpoint, but my jaunts there never left me especially eager to return. That said, a couple of little areas have been fairly fruitful of late, so below — aside from the first frame which was taken on the way — are some scenes from a recent visit. A location that’s rarely seen on these pages, plus it was in the rain, which is similarly infrequent in my photography. Something I should really do more of despite the fumbling awkwardness of manually focusing while holding an umbrella, as results-wise, a few of these came out reasonably well.

The first shot is great but man that last one is just awesome! Please take more rain shots! 🙂

I hear the Blade Runner soundtrack when I get to the last photo!

@Sean Thanks a lot. Haha, I should, but we shall see!
@Soph Cheers, definitely that kind of feeling. Not the sort of photo I usually take, but it was too good a moment to miss.

Rain in the city. A great combination. Have to agree with Sean that the taxi photograph is the standout for me in this collection.
Oh, and I found this for you to keep both hands free 🙂

Thanks a lot. it was quite the scene that’s for sure. Haha, not quite sure that is going to tempt me to head out more!

Oh, I think you’d fit right in on a sunny sunday afternoon ligging along Ginza Chuo 🙂
Lee says
Haha, I think I’ll stick to messing about awkwardly with an umbrella.

It’s not much fun as a photographer being out in the rain and damp but when the harvest includes these beauties, it’s always worth the effort. Love the geometric busyness of frame 7. And the puddle reflection of the Nice Lady Soap sign, while the mac-wearingcyclist peddles through. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Thanks a lot. Yeah, I wasn’t particularly enthused to be out in it at first, but finding a good number of interesting things to photograph made it an unexpectedly enjoyable outing.

I like no. 7 too – very like your shitamachi ones in Tokyo but with that pop of purple for a change.
I love the first one – so much to examine. It looks like two photos in one; first impression was old vs modern (with juxtaposed tunnels), but on closer inspection it’s more like slow vs fast – and yet both pedestrian and train are moving on tracks….
Great compilation.

Thank you very much.
Yeah, I totally agree about the 7th one. Lots of similarities. And cheers. I had something similar in my head for number 1 before getting off the train there, so very happy I could more or less reproduce it for real.
