The sight of Tokyo commuters reading newspapers is a rare one these days. And the sight of little lads similarly engrossed in the latest news is rarer still.
Didn’t realise when I took the photo, but turns out it’s a paper written specifically for elementary school kids. Had no idea such a thing existed, but very glad it does.
Very nice! But the picture needed to have been in black and white! Who’s going to believe we have such young newspaper readers in the 21st century? lol
Asahi, Yomiuri, and Mainichi, the three largest ones, all have elementary kids newspapers. They have rubys so that kids with less Kanji knowledge can still read through.
This boy is reading the Asahi, which comes to your house every day. My kids read Yomiuri, which get delivered every Thursday.
Thanks for the extra info. Until I took this photo, I had no idea such newspapers existed. That was a surprise, and the fact that some are daily was even more of one. A great idea to get kids reading and engaged, plus of course a similarly great way to get those same kids connected to a particular news outlet at such a young age!

Oh my heβs so adorable!! π

The newspaper and uniform are quite a combination, aren’t they?

You sure itβs not a sports magazine with a swimsuit lady in the middle?π
All jokes aside, he is cute.
Lee says
Haha, that would give the image a completely different vibe!

Given he’s somewhere in elementary school and may not yet have all the kanji down to read a newspaper, impressive.
