Tsukiji fish market isn’t exactly the nicest of places. The sprawling complex is busy, noisy, and rather befittingly it doesn’t exactly smell the best. Yet none of these factors appeared to affect this fella, as despite the surroundings and his run-of-the-mill lunch box, he still somehow managed to look almost regal.

Lee I love all of your pictures from Tsukiji. So much detail and life in all. Your one from last week with the man in the truck and the guards in their little box are my two favs! This guy reminds me of Mickey Rooney 🙂
Lee says
Cheers! The man in the truck is a favourite of mine too. Not just in relation to Tsukiji either. It’s definitely an interesting place to shoot. Somewhere I should go more often really, but it’s a bit of a trek from home, so requires a pretty early start…

Ha, he’s definitely the lunch break man! 🙂
Lee says
He is. Lording it up over lunch!

Such a beautiful picture! You have definitely captured all the feelings and the lunch break mood. Gongrats!
Lee says
Thank you! For him at least it certainly seemed like a welcome period of calm amidst the organized chaos around him.

Lunchtime guy. He’s not livin’ in a white bread world.
Lee says
No, most definitely not. Something fresh I presume, seasoned with what I think might be his own small bottle of soy sauce.

Excellent photograph. Capturing a man seemingly content with his lot, sitting astride his vehicle and enjoying a bento made by his loving wife. Perhaps he is reminiscing a little about his working life there now that the move is getting close.
Lee says
Thank you. He really was. Very relaxed, and like you say, seemingly equally content and comfortable with his lot in life.
And from tomorrow he can feel even more relaxed, as the move away from Tsukiji has officially been delayed for at least a year. It’ll now be winter next year at the very earliest. So regal lunches are set to stay for the foreseeable future.

Ah, interesting. I’ve been watching a weekly series on Tsukiji, clearly recorded this year, and there has been no mention of the move. I’ll re-add it to my list of places to visit next easter.
