Yeah, it really is. One of those lovely chance finds that just make you smile. I know eh? A few of the places are empty, but more than enough are going concerns to mean it should be quite the place at night.

Happy new year to you, Lee! What I like about places like Tokyo (and Hong Kong) is that you have the super glitzy, techie and new, but also these older, humble places. Variety is the spice of life and long may these older, human-sized spaces remain!

Yes, I couldn’t agree more. I’m just as happy in Shinjuku surrounded by its modern buildings and bright lights, but having both options is what makes Tokyo the truly fascinating city it is.

Looks a bit like Golden Gai but more so, though I assume it’s Tachibana way. If that place is 63% Izakaya I wonder what the other 37% is?
Entering a nantional lockdown again today for a couple of months – and not before time with deaths around 1000 a day on this tiny island (UK). I hope your politicians keep a tighter grip on things than Bojo’s ministerial clown school have done.

It certainly has that Golden Gai look, but this is out in the city’s north-west suburbs. A completely unexpected find which made it all the more interesting. Indeed, a mystery and then some. Might have to venture our there at night to try and find out.
Yeah, been closely following the horrible, seemingly inevitable events over there. The worst man leading the country at the absolutely worst possible time. Just got to hope that the lockdown and continued vaccine roll out is enough to finally get a grip on things.
Seems we are heading for another state of emergency in Tokyo. Possibly as early as the end of this week. Compared to Britain, things really aren’t that bad, but as numbers are now well beyond what they have ever been, it really is time to make changes and hopefully stop things getting out of control.

Heartwarming that these back alleys still exist in such a modern and huge metropolis. Whenever I go to Tokyo, I love walking through and eating in these places. I have also seen them in other cities like Osaka, etc.

It really is. And yes, definitely not just Tokyo. I’ve also had the pleasure of seeing some incredible old streets and alleyways in smaller cities. Makes sense I suppose, as land isn’t as expensive, or sought after. A factor that makes places like this in Tokyo even more incredible.
