All cities change, there’s no doubt about that, but Tokyo sometimes seems like it’s in an almost constant state of flux, with shops regularly being reinvented and buildings getting razed and rebuilt at a really quite staggering rate.
In fact, even in the 12 years or so that I’ve been here, some of the areas I’m familiar with have changed enormously, so what kind of transformation this old lady has seen as she leisurely looks out from her balcony must be truly mind-blowing.

Yeah, i can just imagine…

I guess it’s really like that for most countries in Asia. Singapore is another prime example!

Yeah, I know how the old lady feels, my hometown is changing a lot recently. When I was a kid the semi status quo that we were living was good for me. And well now…. well now… everything changes at a fast pace and I don’t kinda like this. We are all my memories now? Well, I guess they are in my head now, safe.
Great blog, I always read it. Nice pictures, nice reflectiones. You make us think a lot, Lee. Thank you for that!

I noticed this woman as well a couple of weeks back! Near Takadanobaba or Shin-okubo station if I recall correctly. How strange. For some reason she really stood out on that balcony from a hundred metres away or more. Must be her favourite thinking spot.
Lee says
Yeah, it was near Shin-okubo station. No way. Small world eh?
It was the same with me. I noticed her straight away. Seems like she spends quite a bit of time there.
