With the anchor at the front, I’m tempted to say its an Imperial Navy cap, or perhaps a knock off as there’s no way that dude was old enough then to serve back in the day.
@Richard Cheers! Yeah, that was one of the first things I noticed. An unusual sight so I really should have asked him if it was real or not. Oh, and apologies for your comment being flagged. Only just noticed it. The system was clearly being a little overeager.
@An Ex-expat Yeah, not sure what the story is there. Like I mentioned to Richard, I should have asked him. But as you said, he certainly isn’t old enough, so if it is the real deal it clearly wasn’t his.
You get such clarity in your photographs.
You can really feel the cold. Is that an oden pot in the background?
My favourite bit is the cheeky little cat in the bottom right corner ๐
Cheers. And yeah, it was unusually cold that day, although there was briefly a little bit of sun. Just enough to illuminate the old fella nicely. In fact I was so focused on him, both then and after, that I didn’t even notice the cat!
Yes, oden. It was a prefect day for oden. Although that said, there’s never really a bad day for oden.

I like his hat and thereโs even a guy reading a newspaper. I mean ……. a newspaper! ๐

Me too. It was his hat that first caught my eye. Definitely more interesting than the almost standard baseball cap.
Richard says
Looks like the cap is modeled after a Japanese military one. Great photo!
