When entering an old Tokyo bar or restaurant, there’s often no way of knowing what it’ll be like on the inside. With experience I can now make a fairly educated guess, but there are still lots of surprises to be had — both good and bad.
The little Chinese place below was much darker than many, but most of the standards were reassuringly all present and correct. Best of all though was the wholly unexpected multimedia phone call from a different time and place altogether.

I like this it made me smile. Your timing is always perfect!

Very glad to hear it. Thank you. It somehow all came together. Nearly dropped my food trying to get the shot fired off in time though!

Very cool to see outside and inside and the multimedia time-travelling call is just awesome. Thanks for keeping on!

That wonderfully coincidental moment was quite something. I just wish the restaurant had a more retro phone. Would have been perfect if it had. My pleasure. It really is something I both want and need to do.

A great opportunity well spotted and excellently executed.
The TV clock (if it is a clock) says 2 minutes to 1am, and the cafe clock also says 2 minutes to 1 although, being analog it is agnostic about the meridiem.

Cheers. Very happy when I saw that play out in front of me.
Bit confusing with the format, but the clock on the TV has the kanji for afternoon, so rest assured I wasn’t eating gyoza at 1am with no chance for a train home til about 5.

The gyoza in places like those is usually quite tasty! The bar is a throwback to the 1960’s, eh?
Thanks!

They are., and this place was no exception. Really tasty.
I reckon so. 60s or 70s for sure.

I wondered what “a telephone call across the decades” would look like when I saw the words… and smiled when I saw the photo. You nailed it, Lee! 🙂

Thanks a lot. Glad you enjoyed it. Didn’t really know how to word it, but that seemed good enough.
