As just out of shot is the ‘Let’s whaling’ centre, a far more popular venture that rents out pedal-powered whaling vessels complete with functioning harpoons; its customers earning an extra 15 minutes out on the water for every ‘whale’ they manage to bag.

Manga melons

When it comes to big and bulging bosoms, manga and anime take some beating, with countless characters boasting almost missile-like mammaries — their enormously enlarged bouncy bits defying both nature and gravity.

Yet for those inclined to dismiss such material as mere titillation, any criticism should be directed at the academics rather than the artists; this poster for an anime and manga school in Tokyo showing in no uncertain terms what’s expected.

Magazine mishap

The people at SO-EN magazine were understandably excited with the publication’s 70th anniversary. Very excited even.

So much so in fact that it would appear that any effort in regards to grammar, word order or even plain old meaning was frivolously forsaken.

Lavatory linguists

The incredible commitment shown to ‘the company’ by the average salary man, resulting in long hours, regular drinks with the boss and minimal holidays, can have numerous consequences. Death from overwork (karoushi) is by far the most extreme, but there are also problems such as marital breakdown and mental health issues. And with such little time for anything other than work, the internationally minded minion also has very few chances to brush up on his English.

Yet thanks to an imaginative manufacturer, even the busiest of businessmen will now be able to manage at least five minutes of English study a day. As at the same time they are squeezing out, they’ll be able to squeeze in a bit of practice with this tutoring toilet paper.

The section displayed even topically targets toilet related matters, with 1. Where is the rest room, and 5. It is a diarrhea feeling, being potentially very useful indeed.

Star style

With only the countless re-issues of the completed Star Wars series to occupy him these days, George Lucas has taken the decidedly unorthodox step of opening a chain of Japanese barber shops.

Each outlet is said to offer a specialist ‘star style’, with this particular one tempting bearded businessman with the ‘Lucas look’.

With its latest creation, snack manufacturer Lotte appears to be making a bid to become king of the not-quite-summer-so-still-not-all-that-hot drinks market, a notoriously tricky time of year with conditions favouring neither hot or cold beverages.
