Last month, I posted a series of photos documenting the demise and pre-demolition abandonment of an old Tokyo danchi, or social housing complex. A sight that signalled the ageing nature of the buildings, as well as the generation that first moved into them.
Photos that fortunately were taken at just the right time, as the fences are now up, meaning the end of a certain era really is nigh.

That overview shot. Wow. I had no idea it was so big!

Yeah, it’s quite a size. And the spare land around it shows it was even bigger.

Those buildings don’t look in that bad condition, at least from the outside. Do you know what’s going up in their place?
Lee says
They are dated and lack lifts, but no, they don’t look that bad. Of course there could be structural issues, or costly work was needed to make them safe in an earthquake, but that’s only a guess.
Considering the spare land nearby due to blocks that have already been demolished, there’s going to be plenty of space, but for what I don’t know. I took the high up shot from one of the new, much bigger tower blocks that have presumably replaced these. More than replaced actually in terms of apartment numbers. So with that in mind, something completely different could well be built.

Awesome addition to the 1st story! 🙂

Thank you. Might have to do one more photo of just an empty space!
