Photographed in the early afternoon, it’s probably fair to assume that this fella’s night out went beyond the hours of darkness, and well into the less forgiving light of the following morning.

Oh my, someone’s gonna be in pain when he wakes up!! 😉
That looks like quite a severe session was had.
Reminds me of a time I found myself in a similar condition in July 1981 in Moss Side. That place, at that time, was somewhat less than safe, and were it not for a couple of sympathetic cops who sat me in a shop doorway and an anonymous metalhead who later bundled me into(and paid for) a taxi…
Anyway, I envy the heavy drinkers of Tokyo their safety, if not their lifestyle.
Yeah, I thought that. Like to think it’s his. He perhaps realised he was utterly incapable of cycling, or there again, he was perhaps just physically incapable of staying awake long enough to try.
Oh, the shame …
Long ago, in a different Japanese life, the newspaper delivery man awakened me as I snored away on the sidewalk, having been incapable of getting all the way home. He admonished me to be quick, the kids I taught would soon be walking to school.
Lol, nice anecdote. Perhaps, depending upon age, it would have been a good time to explain you were researching the soon to be set book “Down and out in Paris and London”

Yeah, I reckon so. A lot of pain!
Waking up in the comfort of one’s own bed with a rotten hangover is bad enough, but goodness knows what it’s like waking up in the street…

Blimey, that clearly was a night out and then some. And in Moss Side too…
But yeah, exceptionally kind metalheads aside, Tokyo drunks do have the safety net of knowing they will wake up safe, if not exactly sound.

His faithful bicycle watching over him.

Haha, that’s funny. Imagine the shame of that? Waking up on the street to the confused cries of, “Waldhoff-sensei, what are you doing sleeping there?”
