Pottering about in high heels is presumably pretty hard, but for the fella who really wants to find out what it’s like, and at the same time doesn’t want to be fingered as effeminate, these particularly tricky looking geta appear to be perfect.
If a little painful.
Aneta says
That looks extremely painful!
Not only is it a WOODEN shoe, it’s about three or four inches high with only support in the middle, meaning you can easily lose balance. (Don’t geta have two wooden blocks on the bottom?? Unless I just can’t see the other one in the picture)
How is he walking in those so comfortably?
But anyways, thank you for the pictures! As always, they’re amazing!
Lee says
Thanks Aneta, and know what you mean. I took the pictures primarily because there was only one wooden block on each geta. I don’t recall ever seeing any quite like this before.
Surprisingly though he was moving quite comfortably, although he wasn’t what could be classed as ‘speedy’.
Aimee says
He’s probably used to balancing, probably wears them often.
But I imagine that they aren’t any more uncomfortable than normal wooden geta, and folks used to wear those all the time…! (I wear them sometimes for events, they’re really not that bad…)
cool photo though! (I really enjoy your posts!)

I have a pair like that. They aren’t hard to walk in at all. It took me about 2 minutes to master it. You can’t go extremely fast because 1. They’re heavy and the straps are too wide for my feet and 2. The bottom, if not shod in rubber, is quite slippery. Hard wood on tile or slick stone is slippery.
You just walk normally in them. It’s STANDING that’s hard to do. Balancing just on the center of your feet without wobbling is the test of strength and agility. I find I can walk in them for 6 or 8 hours without getting tired.

btw, if you’d like to see those geta and more types, try this shop:

(maybe you’d like to try your hand at walking in them! he!)
Lee says
Cheers Aimee! The shop also has the same kind of geta in stock. They go by the name of one tooth (tengu) geta it seems.
I think that’s enough information for me though. A pair of well-worn adidas trainers rather than a bit of wood are more my thing.
Bunny says
You’ve never complained before about wearing a bit of well-worn wood, Lee.
RMilner says
Apparently that type of geta are tip-top for fighting in mountain terrain, because the type with two blocks underneath tend to get stuck on stones.
