What the deal is with these cats I don’t know, but with their fancy fashion and plainly un-feral appearance, it certainly seems like they are well looked after.
Aside, that is, from being left perched on a Ginza road sign where they are photographed and fawned over for hours at a time.
Although to be fair, they didn’t seem unduly concerned, and, in some ways, appeared almost as curious as those taking their pictures.

Kawaiiiiii! And I’m a dog person. You can see some really ridiculous outfits on canines and felines in Ginza. Thanks for this pic!
Lee says
No problem Simon. I’m not really a cat person myself. No doubt due to me being allergic to them. But these three were definitely a bit different.

i also am allergic, but these kitties are super adorable

Amazing, I saw these cats in Ginza also, a few months back! Please check my pictures here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tigroumeow/5280127762/) and here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tigroumeow/5280127542/). We maybe went the same day, as I never saw them again 🙂
TigrouMeow says
Actually not exactly the same place. Mine were on the Miyuki Dori sign in Ginza. But relatively near.
Lee says
Yes, that’s definitely the same cat, isn’t it? I took this picture on Saturday though, so they are back!
TigrouMeow says
Yeah, definitely the same cat! That’s nice 😉 The cats maybe belong to one of the surrounding shops!

That’s too darned cute for words… and almost too cute for pictures too. Nice one. Better not show my wife these photos though, otherwise she’ll want to start bandana-ising our cat too.
Lee says
Cheers. I thought that it was maybe those fashion touches that the cats are being used to promote, but at the same time I didn’t see anybody selling them.
melon says
They look so adorable..but also scared and sad
Lee says
I’m no cat expert melon, but they didn’t act like they were scared. My guess is that they are there a lot, so they’ve become quite used to it.
Peta says
I’ve seen that kind of thing in Japan at the Ginza shrine… I think it is so horrible!!!! The owner just stands back while the cats get photographed… It’s almost like he gets some sort of pleasure out of it….. 🙁
Lee says
I don’t know what the deal is here Peta, but I didn’t see anybody nearby who appeared to be the owner. Just a gang of people taking photos. Quite bizarre really. But, despite it being a far from ideal place to leave them, they didn’t look to be in any distress at all.
Fulco says
wow, it seems we are at the same place same time http://bigger-in-japan.blogspot.com/2010/12/in-ginza-even-cats-dress-to-t.html
I really wonder what the deal is with those cats…
Lee says
Yes, but with the cat sporting a different collar thingy. Must be something to do with them.
Norm Nakamura says
I took the time to look into this and have written a post about the Ginza kitties!!
