THAT is why women are supposed to go out in a group. At least she stands a good chance of surviving in Japan. In any major US city she would very likely be gang raped and robbed.
Happy to say help was on its way. Someone tried before, but the fella in the convenience store was making sure she’d be sorted out. But yeah, Japan may well have its problems, but safety thankfully isn’t one of them.
Oh deary me!
Wondering if the guy at the counter is asking for a bottle of what she had.
Either that or pointing at the bloke taking photos ;o)
I like the framing – esp. in #2!
I understand the Nihonjin supreme concern for privacy and the individual’s personal business. But there is something incredibly sad in these photos. A young attractive lady with no one taking an interest to assist her.
I suppose this just goes against so much of what I have been taught.
The photos are a bit deceptive in that sense. Or at least the top one is. A young fella had tried to lift her up and get her on her feet, but she was having none of it. Or possibly wan’t capable of being helped. But the man at the counter in the second photo was making sure she got some proper attention.
This reminds me of old times when my uncle found people fainted like that in front of our school after too much alcohol. He would oftenly tap the person on the shoulder and offer something sweet for the person to recover, to drink juice or coffee. Actually it was almost impossible to have a normal conversation before the person would drink something with sugar… Almost 100% of the cases were men though, women were more subtle. Perhaps, in Japan, men are the majority to faint on the street too…
.
My heart is sad to see a girl like that, I would try calling an ambulance.
Not common to see women in this state to be honest, but at the same time it does happen. Seen it a few times. Generally they haven’t been left alone though…
Cheers. Didn’t want to be stood there photographing her for long, as I felt a bit bad. Although clearly not that bad… But fortunately I clocked him coming out and managed to quickly get what I wanted.
From experience in my younger days I found being laid stretched out, or in the recovery position the most comfortable way to pass the time until the effects of excess alcohol were manageable. Being curled up like that is my reaction to being in pain. There is also a marked lack of dishevelment. Hair, shoes, dress, LV bag – all pristine.
The second shot shows the concern. This isn’t quite the same as the salaryman prone reaching out towards the toilet entrance.
Nice Smith’s reference in the titles.
If you’d seen her earlier you might have used…
I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I’m miserable now
It was actually in the early afternoon. My guess is she’d been to a host club after her work finished, so it could have been any time when she left. Often seen them rolling out drunk well into the afternoon.
Hangovers are bad enough when you wake up in a nice comfy bed, so heaven knows how bad they are when you wake up in the street and are potentially a long way from home…
Lee, I just came across your post here, and found your photos quite empathetic. Next time, would you please help her out after your photos. For itโs easier for ladies to help each other. Are there lots of PCs around in Tokyo today? Probably not as many as in the US, if oneโd guess.
Best, Art

Thanks!
Very happy to say he wasn’t pointing at me. He was intent on some help being called. Good on him for that.

People here can sleep anywhere…
Perhaps she fell over due to her crazy shoes and knocked herself out.
Lee says
They really can. After years here it still amazes me.
This shoes definitely look tricky to walk in, don’t they? And after a ludicrous amount of alcohol, even tricker…

That said, a lot of people had simply walked by.

Love the shot of the guy with his shopping looking at her as he passes by.

Such epic timing! You got the guy at the register telling the staff member about the girl outside! Amazing. ๐
Lee says
Thanks! Him and the guy coming out with his shopping worked out perfectly. Nice when things come together like that.

Yes, despite the clearly very big night, she’s still surprisingly well turned out, isn’t she?
Glad you picked up on the reference. And yes, a little earlier and she may well have happy in the haze of a (very) drunken hour…

Must have been one hell of a party, that’s for sure. Hangover is going to be brutal, but that’s the price you pay ๐

Yeah, sadly it is.

Glad to see that people are taking care of each other, even in the big city!
Lee says
Yes. Admittedly a fair few people just watched past, but there were plenty of others concerned enough to help.
