Kimonos and conversations

A kind of conversation that’s quite possibly as common as their kimonos are uncommon.

“So, you woke up in a kimono, too, eh?”

    “Yes! And so did she!”

    “Me, too!”

    “How extraordinary!”

I was thinking more along the lines of:

      “Who did?”

“You know very well who did.”

      “No…, she didn’t.”

      “She did.”

      “When?”

      “Last week.”

      “No……..”

What’s with the little “coats” over the kimono? Kimono are anything but “a light article of clothing,” and since one oba-san has a parasol, the sun was obviously shining.

That one in the middle can only be described as scary looking. Wouldn’t want to get caught by her with improperly sorted trash.

Rain was forecast for later in the day. That’s the only explanation I can come up with.

And I agree. A woman not to be messed with.

    Great shot!
Yeah, never seen coats like that before, they look very specifically designed to be worn with kimonos. I wonder, how they look like from the back… (usually regular coats leave ladies with a weird bump on the back, where the folds of the obi are).
Anyhow, brilliant capture, they are so immersed in their conversation 😉

      Thanks!

Pretty sure there’s still the bump at the back. Seen them worn a few times, but it always seems such a shame to cover the kimono underneath.

The ladies on the right and left sides of picture are wearing Japanese rain coats over their kimonos. The weather forecaster must have predicted so rain as I see the lady at the rear has her umbrella open.

Yeah, rain was predicted for later, although when I took the picture it was lovely and sunny.
