Last week I posted some recent, late summer night scenes shot in and around Shinjuku’s Kabukicho red light district, so as a companion series of sorts, here is a set of daytime photos from the same area and time period. Moments that just like those previous pictures, are quiet interludes amidst the crowds and general hullabaloo of the area. With their variety, colours and contrasts, they are also suitably reflective of this consistently fascinating part of the city, along with a couple of frames that offer more than just a hint of its famous, round the clock hedonism.

This is such a gritty set. I love it! 🙂

Cheers. Thankfully Shinjuku still retains a fait bit of that.

Great companion shots to the nighttime ones, thanks!
Lee says
You are welcome, and thanks a lot. Nice to add these ones.

I’d like people to be able to get drunk and sleep in the streets of my country (France) without being robbed or assaulted in my country.
Nice shots, thank you very much.

Thanks a lot. Japan certainly has its problems, but thankfully personal safety is rarely one of them. And like you said, that’s sadly not the case in many countries…

An interesting variety of poses, postures and outfits, and at least one very cool looking cat.
Lee says
Yeah, almost always something and/or somebody of interest on a walk round Shinjuku. Definitely a place I never tire of.

It’s a different world when the veil of night and neao has been drawn back. A bit like an off season seaside town.
I like tha lady with her shopping on her back. A mama-san restocking her bar perhaps. And my “cool cat” vote goes to the guy on the Yamaha, though the one between the flowers and the rainbow is charming.

That’s a very good description of it. The night time colours are nice and all that, but I much prefer it in the far less forgiving light of day.
Good call on the lady. I hadn’t thought of that, but definitely makes sense. And the rainbow man was suitably cool when he spotted me. A brief, dismissive look and he was straight back into his phone call.
