With its vast population and famous entertainment hubs, Tokyo is as loud, busy and frantic as one would imagine. It is also quite the opposite.
Move from those well known areas, or find some of their tucked away little secrets, and the city can be a very different place. A metropolis that is calm, quiet and sometimes even serene. Below then are some examples of that, all taken in the last couple of weeks when on long wanders or photowalks with customers. Moments captured in places ranging from those aforementioned central districts, to the capital’s western suburbs, with each and every location feeling like a completely separate world.

I love the 1st and last ones. 🙂

Thank you. They were both really nice moments to see.

I’ve never seen a modern-day picture of a kiseru is use before. Have they made a comeback?
Lee says
I know eh? A real rarity, and no comeback as far as I know. Years and years since I last saw one in use.

These are great, thanks. My fav is the last one…a veggie garden in Tokyo?!?
Lee says
Thank you. More a small farm than a veggie garden. You’d be surprised how many there still are out in west Tokyo.

Yet another fantastic set. I love the textures of some Japanese walls and grounds, like on #3, #4 and #5. Also, the lines on #6 make super interesting dynamics, not to mention the great character that enters the scene. Also, beautiful stories on every single one. Thanks for sharing!
Lee says
Thanks a lot and you are very welcome. Really good to hear you found stories in every frame. Always what I try to do, but often easier said than done.

Another collection that is held together perfectly by your words and the people in them. The smoking man is quite the figure, but it’s the pale green tiles above the C&W bar that catches my eye there.
The urban farm looks so peaceful. I’ve seen a few documentareis about the farms out Nerima way and the little unmanned farm shops that sell their produce. Looks a nice place to live.
Lee says
Thanks a lot. Happy with how all these worked together.
That C&W bar and the back of the restaurants opposite it make for a fascinating little spot. This time made all the more special by the addition of the smoking man.
And yeah, surprising how many little farms there are. Certainly not something I ever imagined when I first moved here.
