Back in April I posted a series of photos from Tokyo’s Shinjuku entertainment district. All of them were of quiet moments amidst the lights, crowds and general cacophony that is Shinjuku from early evening onwards. Scenes that don’t always spring to mind when one thinks about the area, but they are arguably just as relevant as the noise and sometimes almost absurd number of revellers. Little vignettes of life that I like to seek out and capture, so here are some more. All of them taken since the previous set. The latest being from last weekend, which also appeared to mark the beginning of the dreaded summer humidity. A time when the city will start to look and feel very different once again.

Those quiet moments of repose before the throngs arrive are lovely. I like the 4th one of the person standing in the empty parking lot. It never ceases to fascinate me how a huge city like Tokyo can have these very narrow alleyways. The colors seem magnified in such small spaces. . Thanks!!

Thanks a lot. I’m fond of that one too. There’s something about the silence and solitary nature of it. And yeah, all those little alleyways really do make the city special.

You have captured the quiet before the storm so well in these, and bookended the collection with two of your best.
The lady standing at Bay 5 is my favourite though. Waiting for her ride? or checking her parking app to confirm this was where she had left her car 🙂

Thanks a lot. Very happy with quite a few of these. The lone woman woman one too. The lines and the lights were all set up really nicely. As was her position in the frame, although what she was doing I have no idea…

Methinks lady in last photo likes what she sees.

What do the signs with the rainbow near the door signify? I am going to assume it’s not to proclaim it’s an LGTB+ friendly space…
