Even after retreating to one of Tokyo’s old and quiet little corners, there was still no escape from Trump’s trip to the capital. But whereas avoiding him was impossible.
Ignoring him clearly wasn’t.

I wish we could all ignore him as easily as it appears she is:)
I know you’re not exactly in the Kawasaki area, but nonetheless please stay safe in your parts of Japan. Too terrible for words….
Thank you. Yeah, absolutely shocking. The utterly random and completely senseless nature of it. Just terrible. I really hope those caught up in it get all the help and support they are gong to need over the coming days, months and years.
I can’t speak for all Americans, but I know others feel the same as I do when I say I am truly sorry. All we can do is make sure he does not get re-elected next year. Every time I hear that he has gone abroad to represent the US, I cringe and tense up, waiting for his next controversial action. So, again, I am sorry. All I can ask of non-Americans is to remember that he does NOT represent all of us. Just like that madman with a knife does not represent all Japanese people.
I like these pictures very much, though. These things need to be documented.
Thanks. It was an interesting scene for sure. Quite a contrast.
No need to apologise at all. I know exactly how you feel. When I’m asked here where I’m from, the moment I say Britain, I get questioned about Brexit. The usual one being a simple, Why? A question I can’t answer, and feel embarrassed about, but like you, it wasn’t my choice.
Is there an ungulate in the room .. or at least a plastic one underneath the TV?
Like the last posting, there’s a lot in the detail of these eatery images, but here it is a lot easier to focus on.
Now if he was a fan of photo walks instead of golf…..and another ‘interesting’ Leica ad perhaps?
That’s a good point. Much easier to look around the bar in these shots. When drinking in these places, it’s great how over the time there you notice more and more little things. Certain ornaments, pictures etc. Years and years of life and experiences that become part of the bar.
A great looking bar – though if a TV had to be there at all it would ahve looked better (to me) running a soap or quiz show 🙂
Often in bars with real history (sadly very few in the UK these days) there is a cloud of souvenirs and knick knacks surrounding the space, brought or sent in by guests and regulars over the years and given a small amount of territory on the surfaces and walls. All those little things give a permanent presence of clientele current and past that fascinate the eye even when quiet, or as here, when viewed in a photograph.
Kind of like the chapter in Brideshead Revisited when Sebastian takes Charles to visit his Nanny alone in here little room surrounded by all the small things her charges have brought her over the years from their holidays and travels.

Television; the plug-in drug and ruin of many a good shop (regardless of who’s/what’s showing).

Yeah, couldn’t agree more. No matter how hard you try to look away from it, a TV is such an attention grabber.

Haha, now that really would have been something!

Indeed. Anything to be honest. Even an inane afternoon show would have suddenly seemed appealing.
Yes, that’s very true. Souvenirs and the like that have stories, and then over time provide further ones. Or at the very least hint at them.

Absolutely priceless, your timing is spot on once again.

Thank you. I was hoping for a kind of interaction of sorts, so happy to get something along those lines.
