Tokyo may well be ridiculously busy, but just like in other cities around the world, Sunday mornings can be quite different. In fact so different that one could even call them serene.

Nice picture. I can almost hear birds chirping and the brakes squeaking on the bicycle.
I think this is what Heaven looks like, if there is one. You can have your clouds and angels playing harps, I’ll take the Shitamachi potted plant garden and the sound of those squeaking bicycle brakes.
Wonderful photograph. The peacefulness does come through with the low sunlight and lack of activity. There is something appealing about a long shot down a straight road, and when you get two-for-one in a location like that it’s a real bonus. Reminds me of a scene in one of my favourite films. http://tinyurl.com/juj8pjj.
Distinct similarities there eh? I’ve found a few places where there are two streets like this, but they are always cluttered, half blocked or in some way made un-photogenic. Always frustrating. This spot was the same the last time I was there too, but finally got lucky this time. Incredibly lucky actually, as the moment I’d taken the picture, a car pulled up and parked right in front of me. Made getting the shot I wanted even more fulfilling.
I say; Is it not a squirrel frame at the apex of the light shaft? Topiary sounded just too wrong.
“Now the workers have struck for fame….” – Life on Mars. The film is a replay of life.
Thanks a lot. I was happy to see it, and even happier to get a photo of something approaching what I saw/felt. So glad to hear you got something out of it too.

Cheers. Yeah, it was very nice. Even better the bikes didn’t even have squeaky brakes. A miracle of sorts!

Can’t argue with that. Me too. Although ideally I’d swap the squeaky brakes for the faint chatter of TVs from open windows.

What a peaceful scene. Nice.

Fixed it for ya LOL http://i.imgur.com/stCn3R5.jpg Couldn’t help myself.

Cheers!
Haha, yes, properly peaceful. A bit of ‘fixing’ is probably the only chance of getting that shot!

I was just thinking how the bike’s shadow stood out in Lee’s photograph when I clicked on your version – where it stands out even more! 🙂
Lee says
It does. Gives the photo a wonderfully odd feeling with just the shadow there.

Bonsai squirrels on sale again…but which film it is is a mystery to me.

Ah, ok. Thanks. With you know. Nice spot. Hadn’t even noticed that.
Yes, definitely looks like a squirrel. Not being a Micky Mouse, it also shouldn’t grow up a cow.
john says
I’d be surprised to see anything a bit Mickey Mouse in a shop like that :O)

I love these types of streets, your photo is very well composed!

Likewise. A fairly rare treat. And thanks. Saw the fella on the bike heading my way, so had just enough time to get where I wanted to be.
