Shinjuku train station is the busiest in the world, and the nightlife spots in the areas surrounding it are similarly crowded. Blaring screens, signs and people everywhere make it as packed with revellers as it is brightly lit, and yet amid all the chaos and noise there are still quiet scenes to be enjoyed. Moments like the ones below that briefly at least defy the surroundings and offer something akin to a sense of calm. All of which were photographed over the last couple of weeks or so. A time when masks were officially deemed unnecessary, and things in Tokyo finally started to feel like they were getting back to normal.

Oh man these are awesome. Lovin the night vibes. 🙂

Thank you very much. They definitely make a nice contrast to a lot of my stuff.

Fantastic to see Shinjuku in quiet repose.
Lee says
Thank you. It was nice to catch these quiet moments.

You so capture the essence of tranquility and solitude that can be found at night in a big city. The first in the set is my favourite. The grey pallette of outside and the warm yellow glow from inside the bars is striking. As are the myriad greebles barnacled to the walls. So much detail
Lee says
Thank you. The back of those restaurants are always a joy to see. So much going on like you said, plus those glimpses of the inside. Never fails to impress.

Do you know what is written on the white board with a photo of a woman, on the third picture ?
Lee says
In the third one that’s actually a woman walking past, and behind her is the entrance to one of the area’s dodgy shops. Think it has an over 18 sign on it if I remember correctly.

These photos make me want to book a flight to Tokyo ASAP! I’ve not visited Japan since 2019 and I miss doing so. And all the times I’ve been in Tokyo (bar one), Shinjuku’s been the area I’ve stayed in…
Lee says
Glad they gave you that feeling. Great place to stay. You have all that Shinjuku has to offer, and also the option of getting anywhere you want easily. Can’t ask for much more, can you?
