We are now more than halfway through September, but summer in Tokyo shows little sign of letting up, with the still intense temperatures making long walks more of an endurance test than something to look forward to.
These then are photos from a recent saunter starting in the late afternoon. A chance to avoid the worst of the heat as well as wander some of the capital’s nearer to me western suburbs.
Like the images in a recent post, they don’t really show anything particularly striking or unusual. They don’t tell any kind of story either. Instead, these are all just small moments of life in a city that contains the lives of many millions.

The 2 long shadows and street shots are super cool! 🙂

Thanks a lot. The light was absolutely lovely. Looking forward to more of that in the coming months.

ugh, this weather. I’m coming in November, will I need to pack shorts??
Thank you for braving it to keep sharing photos with us, this is a great set. I am also very intrigued by the daruma-cat riding a taiyaki in the last one. no idea what is going on there.

I do hope it has cooled down considerably by then. Certainly should have.
Thanks a lot, and you are welcome. I simply can’t stay inside the whole time. But yeah, what on earth is going on there I have no idea either. One of those nice finds that doesn’t seem to make any sense.

Oct/Nov for us, and seeing temperatures 10 degrees warmer than usual is causing havoc with our packing plans 🙂

The clarity and detail you get in any light is amazing. And on the subject of light, the sepia yellow in the laundrette was exactly the colour of the sky here at 7am during a most spectactlar thunderstorm.
The hipshot shadow is a standout for me, as is the guy watching the Carp game on TV. Wonder if he comes from Hiroshima, or just likes baseball.
The graffitti is a bit jarring in style, but I guess for the writer the message is more important than the lasting artistic effect.

Graffiti is jarring in Tokyo. The ‘good news:’. Much less than in US cities!!

Thanks a lot. The light for that bicycle and motorbike shots was absolutely lovely. Glad I happened to be where I was. The fella watching baseball was a nice, quiet moment too.
Certainly not a lot of graffiti in Tokyo, but a few areas definitely have more than people would probably expect.

Great ‘slice of life’ photos! I also love the ones with the long shadows. And the cat in the last one is terrific.
Lee says
Thank you! It’s nice to just go out and take these everyday life kind of photos.
The long shadow ones I’m happy with. That light and street were a perfect combination. And yeah, that last scene was something else.
