I’ve heard the expression, I’m so tired I could sleep on a washing line many times. Although admittedly not recently. Is it still in use?
Anyway, considering the width of a washing line, the man pictured below might not have been quite that tired. But at the same time he must have been more than a little bit sleepy. And if his precarious sleeping and balancing act wasn’t enough, the photograph was taken in the middle of Akihabara on a Saturday afternoon. Which for anybody unfamiliar with the area, is incredibly noisy and busy to say the least.

What a cool picture Lee! It instantly reminded me of a Lowry painting I once saw at the gallery bearing his name here in Manchester. So much so I had to search Google and find it:

See what I mean? Apparently Lowry came across this man in much the same serendipitous manner as you come across many of your subjects- in his case from the top deck of a passing bus!

Cheers Jonathan!
I just checked the link, and yeah, I see what you mean. Although I am in no way trying to compare myself with Lowry!
Funnily enough though I’m from Manchester. Well, Greater Manchester. Thankfully it’s changed a bit since Lowry’s days. When I was back home in the summer I went into the centre of Manchester, and it looks so much better than it used to.
But what’s with all the cows?

It’s the ‘Cow Parade’ Lee- as featured in Crinklybee back on June 21st. The multicoloured fibreglass ruminants have only just dissappeared after a summer brightening up our streets- on my way home from work the other day I saw the one from outside the Whitworth Art Gallery in Rusholme being bundled unceremoniously into the back of a Transit Van.
You’re right about Manchester and the way it has changed for the better- another famous son of Salford, the boy Morrissey, was back in his home city recently and said much the same thing. From where I am sitting in my office (near Castlefield), I can see trendy apartment blocks, bars and general European-style street life, where not so long ago were only abandoned canalside warehouses. Maybe I will take some pictures one day and stick them on the blog!
