Another fine multi-layered slice of Tokyo life you have captured here in your photograph. Even a fairly rare reflective selfie π
It’s the guys head I’m worried about, looks so exposed. His phone not so much. Partly because it’s Japan, and partly because Betty Boop is keeping a keen eye on it π
Thanks. Yes, couldn’t avoid that one. Probably about as near to a selfie as I want to get!
It doesn’t look the safest place to sleep, does it? But with Betty Boop on hand, he seemed to be doing ok. Amazing how everyone just completely ignored him. When I stopped to take the photo, however, people sadly didn’t ignore me…
Yeah, of course people regularly ending up like this isnβt exactly a positive side of Japanese society, but at the same time, the fact that they can do so safely, most definitely is a positive. A huge one.

The phone? Mid conversation or awaiting a wake up alarm ?
Lee says
If it was for a wake up alarm, I suspect he slept through it!
DavidT says
Isolate the guy and he could be at home. Lying down comfortable. Fast asleep. Phone by his side. But…….
Lee says
Yeah, despite the people, noise and the cold hard surface, he really does look at home, doesn’t he?

It must be the shoes!
Lee says
Haha, quite possibly. My favourite footwear!
john says
He’s all like a misplaced train commuter. ‘Limited Express (has gone?)’ for a wake up call?
Betty Boop security – awesome!
Lee says
I suspect his missed train was the previous night’s last one, and then before the first ones started again, he was out cold — quite literally.
Ex-expat says
Were he here, he’d soon be minus his cellphone, and perhaps some disturbed person would try to roll him off the platform and into an oncoming train.

GenjiG says
At least, this being Japan, his phone won’t be stolen π
Lee says
That’s so very true. Simply left in peace to sleep his evening off.
