I’m not sure the salariman’s glare is an angry one, to me he’s just baffled what in earth could be interesting enough to photograph in such a bland place and that makes the whole scene priceless!
Just out of curiosity, where was this place? In a shotengai? Under a train trestle overpass? In an underground arcade? As soon as I saw it, I immediately thought of a dystopic future society deep underground in an asteroid a hundred years after the evacuation of Earth. Watching too much anime…
It does have that vibe about it, doesn’t it? Not necessarily the cheeriest of lunch spots.
Yes, it’s beneath the tracks, near-ish Yurakucho station. Although if I recall correctly, it’s tucked away under a bridge rather than utilising the arches which is more common in that area.
I agree with Hans, I think his look of exasperation is more disbelief then anything – like do you really want to be eating here in such a decrepit establishment..
That’s good to hear. Upsetting people certainly isn’t my aim. But obviously little does he know that decrepit little places are exactly the type of establishments I like!

You do manage to provoke some really angry stares!

The nice little added extra for me was the look from the master in the background. Not planned, but very happily accepted.

Rahmen still about 500 yen….. ?
Lee says
Nah, not generally. That’s cheap. The most basic type in similarly basic surroundings.

I was “Mr. Paisely”, but they decided that six colors were enough and left without me.
Lee says
He should have known Paisley was too outside the box.
