Tokyo shadows and a pandemic portrait of a portrait
With almost everyone in Tokyo wearing a mask almost everywhere, relative anonymity has now become the new norm. So for the feasible future, covered faces or the occasional photograph of a portrait will quite rightly have to suffice.

I like this. I’m drawn to her face and I really like the lipstick red!
Yeah, can’t disagree with either of you at all. I just think for me, an uncovered face makes for a much more interesting photograph that’s all. There’s a certain generic nature about masks, although that said, took a photo of a salaryman today and his mask was anything but generic. Something that made him stand out more than he ever would have otherwise, so there are definitely exceptions!
There are people here in the USA who wear distinctive masks. And some women wear one that is compatible with their clothing. Eg, they match colors or patterns. Most of us just wear a plain generic one! In some parts of the USA it has become a political statement of one’s ‘independence’ to refuse to wear one.
I’m surprised that they haven’t been embraced more as a fashion extra here to be honest, although it’s often been said that paper masks are better than cloth ones, so that’s probably a part of it.
Alas there are those types here too. Saw a demo the other week with the participants telling people not to wear masks and that vaccines are dangerous. Happy to say there weren’t many of them, and they were completely and utterly ignored by everyone steaming past — all of whom were wearing masks.

Thanks! Good to hear. And yeah, that red definitely stands out.

Yes, but if you look carefully you can still see a lot in the person’s eyes!

Agree with Richard. Also, I find it easy to recognize people I know even when they’re masks and doubt that I’m the only one who is this way!

Very cool shot. IMO this is way more than ‘suffice’! 😉

Thanks a lot, that’s very kind of you!
