Is that a picture of the alien from “Alien”? But, tbh, whether it is or not, the juxtaposition/incongruity of the person, image and shoes is simply outstanding. Well captured!! This is my new favorite of your photos.
Nah, it’s actually a Moriyama Daido photo. Or at least I’m sure it’s one of his. But thank you very much. Really good to hear. I was wondering how I could photograph it best with someone in the frame, then the fella appeared, forcing me to make that decision there and then. I was pleased where I caught him, and even more so when I saw his shoes, and the placement of the left one. One of those lovely little extras that occasionally appear.
Thank you very much. Having a striking image already there is a huge help, but I was surprised how my relationship to it changed when the fella was in the frame. It suddenly became sinister, which I didn’t feel before.
Cheers. Taking each day as it comes, Making the most of the better ones, and just trying to get through the not so good ones.
Your timing always amazes me. Not just that you must have such patience to lie in wait, but even the framing and capture of the exact moment. I doubt I could accomplish either which makes me appreciate your abilities all the more.
Glad to hear it, and thanks ever so much. That’s very kind of you. Fortunately on this occasion I didn’t have to wait at all. Having spotted the scene earlier, I returned to see if there was anyone interesting I could get in the frame, and then the fella walked past. All done and dusted in no time. Wish it was always like that!
I do, but hadn’t thought about it for this one to be honest. Good to hear you think I should.

shoes that I’d prefer not to walk a mile in, literally!
Glad to see that Moriyama Daido still has a presence; a remnant from an exhibition perhaps? I wonder how many recognise his work in Tokyo.
There were a few of his photos on the same stretch of barriers. One other I’d like to photograph the right person in front of too. But yeah, I don’t know. His work appears all over the show these days. A few big shops have incorporated his work recently as well, so could even be remnants from those. With this being Shinjuku though, and his connections to the area, it’d be nice to think it was the city making an effort to promote/acknowledge his work.
That’s a good question. He’s undoubtedly a huge figure in the world of Japanese photography, but outside of photography fans, how many people actually know who he is I really don’t know. Perhaps not as many as you’d think eh?

Do you submit your work for publication to a newspaper or magazine? This one deserves it!
