Growing up nowhere near any mountains makes being close to so many really quite special. A sense of nearness that can, of course, be easily forgotten in a city like Tokyo. But, a look to the west after the worst of a summer storm, and their proximity is often wonderfully apparent.

Great shot, amazing colors.
Lee says
Thanks, it was quite a sight. Well worth the hassle of the storm.

Beautiful shot, Lee!
Lee says
Thanks, Don. I’ve seen them like that on numerous occasions, but either been in the wrong place, or without a camera, so it was good to finally get the chance.

The clouds look almost like waves in this sea we call the sky. Very nice.
Lee says
Yeah, they do, don’t they? A lovely sight for sure.

Just boggles my mind. I have been to Tokyo seven times and except during trips via Shinkansen to the countryside, I’ve never once seen the mountains while in the city. Will have to make a point next time to find the proper vantage point which also faces in the right direction! 😉
Lee says
I’m in the west of the city where this shot was taken. Much nearer the mountains, so they are often visible on a clear day — or after a storm.

It’s beautiful! Ice-blue mountains…I wouldn’t have known what they were, though, if you hadn’t said so…
Lee says
Yes, they do have an almost unreal look about them. Rare to see them looking so beautiful.
Andrew says
Wonderful shot. Makes me miss Tokyo – especially the summers. I hope to go back soon.
Lee says
Thanks! Summer is probably the one season I wouldn’t miss if I left Tokyo. The heat and humidity I could happily do without. There again, it would mean missing out on all the festivals. Those I would miss…
