Traditional Japanese snacks down a dark Tokyo alleyway
When you work all day in a dark little alleyway, idyllic visions of the world outside are clearly deemed necessary.

Beautifully composed image Lee. I really like the lighting of this dagashiya in the dark. Makes it all that more special doesn’t it?:) I’m assuming he must be looking for something for his grandchildren or so?:) stay safe in your area as things seem to be changing again.
Thanks a lot Coli. Yeah, it’s a lovely little bright spot in an otherwise very dark alleyway. Even brighter with all those pictures. I can’t say for certain as I didn’t want to interrupt him, but I think he’s the owner. He seemed to be checking on things, rather than checking out what to buy.
Cheers. You too. Take care. A slight dip in numbers today, but the government really needs to try and get a grip on things before the cold weather really kicks in, doesn’t it? If they let things drift for too long there’s the very real danger of the infection rate getting out of control. We only need look towards our respective home countries to see what that could entail. Let’s hope things get better eh?
Cheers! The colours really were nice, especially so in the relative darkness. And, yeah, I like the man in silhouette. More luck than timing it has to be said, but very happy he was there.
Cool pic! Are the photos of the walls of the store just there for the owner’s pleasure, meant to catch the eye of potential customers or for sale? If the second, it seems to work!
Thanks! That’s a very good question. I can say they weren’t for sale, but who they were for I really don’t know. But yeah, they caught my eye, so whether planned or not they are on to a winner!
One day my favourite book of photographs will be one of yours, but until you get around to publishing it it will remain Girard and Lambot’s City of Darkness (https://cityofdarkness.co.uk/).
I mention that because this photograph of yours reminds me so strongly of several images published in that book, for example this one https://preview.tinyurl.com/ycutp36f
One of your best.
Thank you, that’s very kind of you. Maybe one day. It’d certainly be nice to say the least to produce one.
Incredibly nice just to be mentioned in the same comment as Greg Girard too. The images he got in Kowloon’s Walled City really are remarkable. In fact so are his photos in general. I follow him on Instagram, and his shots of Tokyo in the 70s and 80s are always absolutely fascinating, both in regards his artistry, and the very different city the photos depict.
See you what you mean about those scenes as well. Definite similarities eh? Oh, and I often miss that edit button, so over the break I shall see if it’ll work with the current caching system. Hopefully it will.

I love the colors and the light above the old guy but my favorite is the silhouette in the alleyway. More awesome timing!
