Football (or even soccer) may well boast a rapidly growing fan base among Japan’s younger generation, but for the salary man who likes a spot of sport on a Sunday afternoon, it’s still baseball that’s the big draw.
For now.

Please do not use that word “soccer”. It’s a insult for the football to call it like that.
Football it’s much easier than baseball, my opinion.
I don’t know about football being easier, but it’s definitely more entertaining (unless you’re a fan of FC Yokohama, of course). Mind, the best fun I ever had in Japan, outside of a Saturday night in Roppongi, was at a Chiba Marines game.
Screw American football. A lot of fat guys in pads standing around waiting for the next TV timeout.
From what I’ve heard, soccer is rapidly gaining on baseball for popularity. Sounds like J-League soccer allows for individualism and showmanship…two things that appeal to Japanese youth.
On the other hand, baseball in Japan is viewed as stodgy and old-fashioned. Too boring for today’s fast-paced culture.
