The clutter and grime of this unique little yakitori shop were what initially caught my eye, but ultimately it was the owner’s lovely big smile that made both the moment, and my day.

Beautiful picture. You’ve really captured this moment well:)
That really is a window on another world. You have certainly captured the “feel” of the place. I can feel the texture of those blue topped pots; I can feel the smoothness of the grill knobs; I can feel the warmth of his smile.
Love the way the cleanest pot has fake gunge dripping down the side. There has to be a story behind it’s choice 🙂
I like Yakitori so much that I have a client company in Tokyo that has given me the honorary title of Director of Yakitori. The grime is ubiquitous but I never seem to get any ill effects. Maybe the Nihon shu kills off any bacteria.
But yeah, exactly the same experience. Never had any problems whatsoever, and some of the places I’ve been to have been almost grubby beyond belief. I think it’s simply that these places are small, and therefore the food is fresh, not stored away and then left way longer than it should be.

Thank you. That’s very good to hear. He was such a lovely fella, so nice to know that comes through.

Was he chuckling at a joke you made? In any case, yet another wonderful photo that exudes so much warmth!

I can only wish my jokes were so funny! So nah, he was just amused I wanted to take his photo.
Thanks, that’s very kind of you. People and places like this make it really easy sometimes.

Cheers. Great to know that all comes through. Exactly what I hoped to achieve.
Haha, that’s a very good point. Another sign, if indeed it was needed, of the master’s sense of fun and good humour.

That’s quite a title to have!
